The projects are part of the state’s new Green Innovation Grant Program, which is designed to promote sustainable, environmentally sensitive water infrastructure, Gov. David Paterson said.
In the Albany area, $2.9 million of the funds will go to the Albany County Sewer District for the installation of a combined heat and power system to capture waste heat and produce electricity from Albany County Sewer District’s existing facility.
The $43 million will support cost-cutting water conservation projects, energy efficiency technology for drinking water systems and clean water infrastructure. Such projects include: green roofs, permeable pavement and rain harvesting.
