Millions invested in Wisconsin wastewater infrastructure

US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded USD105,948,300 (GBP64,183,600) to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

In a move that stands to improve aging wastewater infrastructure and protect environmental health, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $105,948,300 (£64,183,600) to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

This new infusion of money provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will help the state and local governments finance overdue improvements to wastewater projects that are essential to protecting public health and the environment across the state.

Bharat Mathur, acting regional administrator, said that the EPA is pleased to provide the Recovery Act funds for modifying Wisconsin's aging wastewater infrastructure, including its sewer systems.

"This money will protect human health and improve water quality while helping to create good jobs in the state," he said.

In related news, Wyoming's Town of Alpine wastewater utility received an award from the EPA earlier this month for the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility and sewage collection system.
